It really does take a community.
Our annual sponsored event, CanFish, supported 40 rangatahi from across Aotearoa to come together in Tāmaki Makaurau and get a break from cancer by going out fishing for the day.
Thank you to the incredible team of people, led by Mike Deverell of Barfoot Thompson, who organised and ran the event. The day included a tour of a New Zealand Police helicopter and boat, before heading out on boutique and luxury yachts managed by professional skippers, who showed rangatahi the ropes. It was a wildly successful day that resulted in more than 100 fish being filleted for rangatahi and whānau to take home.
There were also rides in vintage cars on the way to an extraordinary prize giving with numerous sponsored prizes - all tailored towards the various needs of our rangatahi.
Thank you for the meaningful time and dedication that the entire CanFish team, Canteen Youth Workers, and charismatic volunteers put in to make the day so special for rangatahi. It also wouldn't be possible without the 18 skippers, 16 platinum sponsors, and 15 gold sponsors - who donated their time, boats, and resources for the event.
We were also grateful to have inspiring ambassadors, like Silver Fern, Sulu Fitzpatrick, join us on the day to encourage and cheer on rangatahi.
