Research Collaboration
At Canteen, we are committed to improving the lives of rangatahi impacted by cancer.

Part of this work involves supporting and collaborating with research projects led by universities, healthcare organisations, and other expert partners. These studies explore a wide range of areas — all aimed at better understanding and supporting the needs of young people affected by cancer.
TAKE PART IN RESEARCH
Living With & Beyond Cancer
Research exploring the experiences, health, and wellbeing of young people during and after cancer.
Cancer’s Impact on Young People & Whānau
Research looking at how cancer affects young people, siblings, parents, and wider whānau.
Emotional Wellbeing, Grief & Support
Research focused on mental health, coping, grief, and the support young people may need.
Research: Cancer, Spirituality & Wairua
An Otago University researcher is running a study to better understand how young New Zealanders (18-25) who have had cancer make sense of spirituality and wairua during and after treatment. This would involve a one-on-one interview (60-90 minutes), either in person or online. View the flyer and email the researcher to get involved.
Flowborne
Breathing Journeys
Flowborne VR is a psychologist-designed mindfulness and breathing programme that uses biofeedback to help rangatahi pause, breathe, and reset during an incredibly challenging time. The Flowborne App is completely free to use.
Using VR headsets, our psychosocial clinicians can offer Flowborne during hospital stays or in therapy-led sessions, giving rangatahi a calm, immersive space to pause, breathe, and reset during an incredibly challenging time.
