Recent Canteen peer support events

At Canteen Aotearoa, our monthly peer support events are all about creating space for rangatahi to try new things, have fun, and connect with others who truly understand what they're going through.
With Youth Workers hosting activities across the motu, every hub has the chance to come together and share these moments.
Over the past few months, our Central Hub rangatahi have been out and about, exploring Zealandia’s wildlife sanctuary, getting hands-on with dumpling making, showing off their knowledge at quiz nights, and enjoying a night at the theatre with Mamma Mia!

In the North Hub, creativity and fun have been front and centre. Rangatahi have teamed up for mural painting, hit the lanes for bowling, battled it out in laser tag, and tested their skills on the mini golf course and bouldering wall.
Down South, rangatahi have had their fair share of adventures too. From cupcake decorating and plant pot painting to solving escape room puzzles and giving bouldering a go, there’s been no shortage of laughter and connection.

A real highlight this season was the annual South Island Mt Hutt Ski Hub Day, where rangatahi came together for an unforgettable day on the slopes. Huge thanks to the Mt Hutt crew for making this experience possible - it was a special chance for rangatahi to challenge themselves, celebrate each other, and create lasting memories.
These events aren’t just about the activity itself. They’re about building friendships, sharing experiences, and knowing you’re not alone. We’re incredibly grateful to all the organisations and supporters who help make them happen. Thanks to your generosity, rangatahi impacted by cancer have a safe space to connect.
Events like this highlight the importance of creating spaces where rangatahi connect, share the tough stuff, and get a break from cancer. They serve as reminders that, even in the face of difficulty, there is magic to be found in connection and community.
