Leadership Camp 2026

Rangatahi from across Aotearoa came together in Tāmaki Makaurau in May for Canteen's annual Leadership Camp, a programme designed to strengthen leadership skills, build confidence, and create lasting connections.

Throughout the camp, participants took part in a range of activities aimed at developing leadership skills while strengthening relationships with one another. From a fun and engaging public speaking workshop to collaborative waiata sessions, rangatahi were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, work together, and support one another.

A key part of Canteen's Leadership Programme, Leadership Camp focuses on whanaungatanga, bringing rangatahi together through shared experiences and teamwork to foster a strong sense of belonging and whānau.

The programme also included storytelling workshops and leadership project tasks, giving members opportunities to develop their communication skills, share their experiences, and connect.

We were also lucky to hear from artist Ladi6, who shared her journey in the music industry and encouraged rangatahi to back themselves, pursue their passions, and stay true to who they are. Her inspiring kōrero resonated strongly with members, and reinforced the importance of confidence, perseverance, and authenticity.

For many attendees, the camp provided a unique opportunity to connect with other rangatahi who understand the challenges of having cancer in their lives, whether through their own diagnosis or that of a family member.

By building confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections, Leadership Camp continues to play an important role in helping rangatahi develop the skills they need for the future while creating a supportive network of peers they can rely on long after the camp ends.

Canteen supports rangatahi to get their life back on track after being impacted by cancer, and programmes such as Leadership Camp help empower members to thrive, grow, and realise their potential.
